Saga Sunrise Concert reviews
Paolo = not so great, Matt Hires = fantastic!
1. Saga's band was awesome - especially the horn and harmonica players, lots of energy.
2. Absolutely loved opening act Matt Hires - amazing acoustic set with a voice reminiscent of Michael Stipe, of both originals and covers.
3. Seriously, go buy this guy's album on iTunes!
4. 2nd opener Erin McCarley was alright - often got lost in the mix of cheesy prerecorded drum tracks, her soft voice, but she did a badass cover of Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" with her keyboard player beatboxing.
5. Saga himself was a HUGE disappointment - stumbled onstage, completely trashed, Corona in hand, and proceeded to mumble his way through his set while hunched over the mic stand.
6. His voice, which sounds gorgeous in the studio, sounded frayed and pitchy live.
7. Whatever banter he had with the audience between songs was completely inaudible due to his intoxication.
8. Overall - go for the opening acts, but don't expect to be wowed by him.
